Region 6
Brody
Owner/Handler: Jean Wilson
Brody, "Windemere's Royal Sir Broderick" came into our home in August 2014 as Loki. Although the name fit him as a troublemaker, we renamed him Brody. Brody was a 3-year-old intact Newfoundland and was an owner surrender that had only lived in the prior owner's basement or in their back yard that was about the size of a small house. He had never been socialized with other dogs nor people and knew nothing but the word "down". His socializing and training were challenging, to say the least. He was enthusiastic about pulling but was a bit of a complainer and would back-talk when he thought he'd worked enough.
Brody's first Championship was in 2015 in Estes Park CO, only 8 months after we took him in. He surprised us by bringing home a Gold on Snow and Bronze on Wheels in the 125# classes. Of course, he had to show me his trouble-maker side on the way down the mountains from Estes Park, by jumping out a partially opened moving vehicle window to chase several Bighorn Sheep down the road as he dodged traffic.
Besides the IWPA, Brody has competed and done quite well in events with the TSAMC (Tri State Alaskan Malamute Club) and W3PO (World Wide Weight Pull Organization). With the IWPA, Brody has earned 7 Championship Medals. 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze on Snow, and a Bronze and Silver on Wheels.
In Region 6, Brody earned 14 Regional Medals. 4 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze on Snow, and 5 Gold and 2 Silver on Wheels.
A Newfoundland's typical life expectancy is 8-10 years and Brody is over 10 ½. Between that and that he's shown us his heart in no longer in competing, we've decided he's earned the right to retire and keep our carpets warm at home.
