Jurik
Owner/Handler: Constance Meech
Jurik was not your typical weight puller. Jurik was a Newfoundland. Most Newfies are quiet, not very active, "rug decorations". Not this boy! HE was full of energy, a sled dog, a parade dog, a carting dog, a water rescue dog, a rally dog, and a weight pulling dog. Thus he got his registered name of Carissa's Large and in Charge CGC, DD3, WRD, RE, BN, IWPA WD. He loved everything he did, and always did his best. Being a large dog, his percentages were never very high, but he often had the highest to third highest weight pulled.
At the young age of 6 he was diagnosed with lymphoma which, with the help of chemo treatments, he battled very well and it went into remission. Until the very end he never was in discomfort, and was just as perky as always. Constance thinks he was perturbed if she restricted his activities. So in an effort to let him feel normal, and keeping a close eye on his health, she let him do what he likes to do. That included weight pulls (however, unknown to him, Constance did withdraw him before he became tired!) His last two pulls were 1552 and 1664 lbs., still impressive given his situation. Even after the lymphoma returned, Constance let him pull one last time in March 2014 before his retirement, a mere 432 pounds which he pulled effortlessly in 4.83 seconds, so he would feel like his weight pulling self. He passed away on October 30, 2014.
In his short weight pulling career, Jurik accumulated 8 Gold Regional medals, 2 Silver Regional medals and his IWPA Working Dog title.
