Region 4
Loki
Owner/Handler: Constance Meech
Aruff's Cinnar Loki, known to his friends as Loki (pronounced Lo-kye, because Constance didn't know any better when she named him!!), was primarily a city sled dog. Loki and Constance started using weight pulling as a cross training exercise with their local Gateway Sled Dog Club. At that time the club weight pulls were not IWPA sanctioned (they did eventually start having sanctioned pulls) even though they had several members who did belong to the IWPA. When Loki started pulling near Working Dog Excellent weights, Constance was told she should think about joining IWPA, and that's when it all started.
They had a few bumps in the road, such as joining IWPA late in life, very few pulls in the area, extremely limited, if any snow pulls that were 6 hours away, an initial pulling harness that didn't fit quite right and limited the weight he could pull and his hideous sled dog jumping form.
In spite of it all, in his five seasons of pulling, he achieved his Working Dog Superior Title on wheels and his Working Dog title on snow, 4 Regional Gold, 1 Regional Silver and 1 Regional Bronze medals.
Constance is glad to be able to say, he had to retire due to age, and was not forced into early retirement due to poor health. He made Constance very proud when on his final pull before retirement, he managed to pull 19.25%!!! What a way to retire!
Sadly, the following July, his health deteriorated extremely rapidly, and Constance had to say goodbye to her howling Husky.
