Piper
Owner/Handler: Wendy Lake
Piper was given to me at an ADBA show. The X on my forehead must have been flashing bright that day because a man
came to my car as I was loading to leave and started talking. Apparently, a mutual friend had told him I would provide a
good home. He said he had imported her parents from the UK and had to find her a home because he had more puppies
due soon. As if I needed another dog, but hey what's one more? Ironically, I had won a crate at the raffle that day.
Piper got a late start to pulling. She was 5 yrs old her first pull. Nov 2017 was a snow pull. She surprised me pulling more
rounds than I imagined that day and gaining a working dog leg. That same season she was invited to Championships
where she surprised me even more. Her experience was 2 events so I wasn't putting any expectation on her, just to have
fun. 10 dogs in the class and Piper pulled 653 lbs, 18.66% on snow. I was thrilled and then to find out the class winner
broke the championship record. I could not have been happier for a 6th place. To tell the truth, Piper loved snow but her
handler didn't.
2018-19 was her best season she pulled 820 lbs and 24.12% on carpet and 694 lbs 21.69% dirt and earned a Gold
Medal. She has Working Dog, Working Dog Excellent and Working Dog Superior Titles.
I can't take any credit for training Piper. That was done by Halo. When Piper was hooked to some weights she didn't know
what was going on so I tied her to Halo. Halo walked on and Piper forgot she had something behind her. All she wanted to
do was follow Halo. It was fun to watch Piper pull because her little docked tail never stopped.
If Piper gets in the IWPA Hall of Fame then she will have 2 "Major Awards". What was the other award you ask? Piper
was voted the Ugliest Dog in Genesee County
